I’m really looking forward to the future with a lot of hope and happiness. I’ve also been working with music library companies writing some production music, more details on that to come soon as well. I’ve also been working with bands, like the metal band Vyle, who has hired me a few times now to write synth and electronic parts for their music, as well as recently some orchestral arrangements. I’m excited now to be full force into my career and I’ve been lucky to have already been receiving work, assisting an established composer, writing additional music for a cartoon series they do, that I’m not sure I can talk much about yet, but it’s been really exciting. I was lucky to often be working outside of school while I was in college. Not to be cheesy, but this song for me was my way of expressing how challenging the college experience was and what it felt like to finally overcome it, so hopefully that comes through in the music. In 1959, Duchamp paid a visit to Johns’ workshop, establishing a direct link between the previous 20th century avant-garde and the current wave of American painters. Johns delighted in making works that could be interpreted in a variety of ways, stating that “these paintings are no more about a symbol than brushstrokes or the tangibility of paint.” In 1958, Rauschenberg and Johns flew to Philadelphia to examine the Duchamp exhibition at the Philadelphia Museum, where the senior Dada creator’s readymades had a tremendous impression on both of them. The next day, he converted the dream to reality, and he finally finished multiple canvases of the very same subject. According to Johns, the inspiration for “Flag” (1955) happened to come to him one evening in 1954 while dreaming about creating a giant American flag. These efforts blended Dadaist gestures with elements of Minimalism art and Conceptual Art. During this period, Johns started to paint his American flag pictures and targets on canvas with encaustic wax, employing a process that blended shreds of newsprint and remnants of material on paper. Both were involved in college and rejected the psychological and existentialist discourse that surrounded the dominating New York School of art at the time. They profoundly affected each other’s art by sharing concepts and approaches that deviated from the then-prevalent trend of Abstract Expressionism. From 1954 until 1961, the two artists had a passionate romantic and creative connection. In 1953, when Johns returned to New York after receiving an honorable release from the army, he encountered the youthful painter Robert Rauschenberg, who introduced him to the art world. He was recruited into the army in 1951 and served for two years. Unfortunately, Parsons was not the best match for Johns, and he dropped out, making him available for the military draft. In 1948, he came to New York on the advice of his tutors and completed one term at the Parsons School of Design. Johns later reconciled with his mother, graduating as valedictorian of his high school.īeginning in 1947, Johns attended the University of South Carolina after graduating from high school. I believe I misinterpreted that to indicate that I might be in a better circumstance from the one I was in.” In his teens, Johns relocated to his Aunt Gladys, who tutored him and two other children in a one-room classroom. He spoke on his youthful dream to be a painter, saying, “I had no idea what it meant. Johns started sketching at an early age with the vaguely defined notion of becoming a painter, but only explored formal art study in college. His grandmother’s artworks were displayed at his grandfather’s home, where he stayed until he was nine years old, and were his sole encounter with art during his boyhood. Jasper Johns was born on the 15th of May, 1930 in Augusta, Georgia, and raised in the rural regions of South Carolina with his grandparents when his folks separated when he was a baby. The expressive distribution of paint in Jasper Johns’ paintings is evocative of most of Abstract Expressionism, however, he does not fill it with the philosophical or metaphysical complexity that his contemporaries did. Jasper Johns’ artworks effectively created the groundwork for Pop Art’s adoption of consumer society by tearing down the customary barriers between fine art and ordinary life. 5.2 What Kind of Art Did Jasper Johns Produce?Įxpounding on the contrasting styles of Abstract Expressionism and Dada, the renowned Abstract Expressionist painter developed a refined aesthetic that addressed themes of individuality, playfulness, and intellectual interaction.4.2 Jasper Johns (2017) by Jasper Johns.4.1 Jasper Johns: Mind/Mirror (2021) by Carlos Basualdo.Elena FitzPatrick Sifford on casta paintingsīIPOC Reader: Teaching Practices and Strategies with… Reframing Art History, a new kind of textbook. Not your grandfather’s art history: a BIPOC Reader. With 503 contributors from 201 colleges, universities, museums, and researchĬenters, Smarthistory is the most-visited art history resource in the world. The Expos, who were struggling to make a profit in Montreal, moved to Washington, D.C., under Selig’s watch. Like it or not, at least Selig made a decision. The 2002 All-Star Game led to Selig’s decision to pump some life into the All-Star Game by awarding the winning team with home-field advantage in the World Series. He later said that decision was “embarrassing” a statement that certainly wasn’t understated. Because of a lack of pitching, Selig declared the game a tie. That ’02 game was tied at 7 after nine innings and stayed that way after 11. In 2002, the All-Star Game was played in Selig’s home town of Milwaukee. Both leagues now have 15 teams, assuring there is an interleague game every day. In Selig’s term, the Milwaukee Brewers switched from the American League to the National while the Houston Astros went the other way. Sure we see “traditional rival” Seattle every year in San Diego, but the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers and Baltimore Orioles also come to town periodically. He helped introduced interleague play in 1997. He was the driving force in the realignment of the National and American leagues into three divisions and introduced the wild-card playoff system. From that, however, have come 22 years of labor peace. Taking over as commissioner in 1992 from Fay Vincent, Selig was in office for the 1994 players strike, a catastrophic event that forced the cancellation of the World Series, the first time since 1904 baseball’s signature event hadn’t been played. Jerome Holtzman, MLB’s official historian, went so far as to call Selig the best commissioner in baseball history.īut Selig has also fouled some pitches off his shin. note In the theme song, the line is "Ryder et les chiots, ses amis", which means "Ryder and the puppies, his friends". Parental Abandonment: The parents of the pups are absent from the series.Don't even try to take Ryder away from them they will do everything in their power to get him back. No One Gets Left Behind: The PAW Patrol are willing to save their leader (and any other teammate, for that matter) no matter the cost.Mecha Expansion Pack: In Ultimate Rescue episodes, each pup's vehicle gains a number of attachments that make it big enough for the whole team to ride in, and also includes detachable extra vehicles for the other pups to operate.Meaningful Name: All of the characters possess names befitting their occupations (except for Tuck and Ella).Kid Hero: Applies to all of the pups, who are all still young.Interspecies Friendship: The pups and Ryder are as close as friends as they are as colleagues.Furry Reminder: They still have many of the usual canine mannerisms (eating out of doggie bowls, loving belly rubs and petting, enjoying doggy treats, showing affection by tackling and licking, wagging tails when pleased or excited, etc.) while they're managing PAW Patrol vehicles and equipment.Later seasons phased this out, so they are rarely seen without Ryder or some other human character with them. Cute Little Fangs: Yes, they are to be expected from dogs, but they're small and not at all scary.Color-Coded Characters: Generally associated with their role, such as Chase (police dog) and Marshall (fire dog) having blue and red uniforms, respectively, but still:.As a group, the pups have "Ryder needs us!" (or sometimes, "Ryder's calling!") when they're summoned for a mission.Catchphrase: All members have at least one.In "Moto Pups: Pups Save a Sneezy Chase", Sky uses the absent Chase's "Ready for action, Ryder, sir!".In "Pups Leave Marshall Home Alone", Marshall uses Ryder and Chase's lines when required to handle an emergency by himself. In "Pups Save a Superpup", Zuma borrows Rubble's "On the double" line when called upon to drive the absent pup's bulldozer.Borrowed Catchphrase: The pups sometimes use the catchphrases of their teammates:.How can they not be? Special mention goes to super spy police dog Chase and Pup-Fu practicing firefighter Marshall.
